TEACHER DEVELOPMENT
Culture Eye
This summer, the Museo is proud to host Culture Eye, an innovative teacher training program that will utilize Latino arts to provide Denver educators with cultural competency training.
Through a series of creative interactive workshops facilitated by qualified teachers and artists, the Museo will provide teachers with vital information that will give a deeper understanding of diverse cultural backgrounds. Teachers participating in the program will receive 45 hours of culturally responsive training, plus graduate credits.
The Culture Eye project will focus on four main areas:
• Developing a cultural worldview
• Understanding cultural differences
• Building knowledge of different cultural practices, and
• Expanding cross-cultural skills.
The goal of Culture Eye is to enable educators to understand, communicate with, and effectively interact with students from diverse cultural backgrounds. Attending teachers will be able to incorporate global and artistic ideas and values into their activities. We want teachers to walk away with tangible materials, including lesson plans and visual aids, to put to use in their classrooms for the 2009-2010 school year.
In turn, students will build a sense of pride about their own heritage and understanding of others. Culturally diverse education has the potential to promote healthier psychosocial development for youth. Ultimately, youth will be better prepared to enter a multicultural workforce and society.
