2012 Southwest Institute

Museo de las Americas Instructional Services (MAIS)

August 1st-2nd

Museo de las Americas is proud to present the 2012 Southwest Institute. This two day institute will provide teachers with an opportunity to discover the importance of cultural competencies through lectures, panel discussions, and hands-on workshops while earning recertification credits towards their Colorado State teaching license. Teachers will have the chance to network with other enthusiastic educators and improve classroom instruction. As the population of students continues to diversify, it is vital for educators to be aware of each student’s cultural background. Through the Southwest Institute, educators will explore the sociopolitical landscape and cultural changes in the American Southwest, and how the fusion of cultures has forged a new generation of individuals with a distinct heritage. Through a series of mini-lessons, educators will gain a multidisciplinary experience that addresses Colorado State Standards in each content area. Additionally, participants will discover the importance of arts integration in core content areas.
